Every year, Santa smiles widely when he flies past Lady Liberty signaling the start of  his long Christmas Eve journey through America. Tonight, he’s taken a brief moment of his busy schedule to stop, smile, and stare in admiration at the towering landmark. As the children try to remain asleep in New York City and the Big Apple shivers in the cold, Santa ponders the indifferent statue and remembers that it is one of the biggest gifts ever given. Contemplating the flame in her raised hand, perhaps Santa is silently thanking her for all the nights that she showed him the way to New York City. These two figures represent America’s joys: love and freedom.
